Center for Union Facts

The Center for Union Facts harasses, attacks, and undermines labor unions. CUF works hand in hand with business interests that oppose unionization of their employees and receives support from an array of foundations in order to diminish the economic and political power of unions.

CUF founder Richard Berman views himself as a participant in a “long-term war” against unions, dating to his early career as a union-busting lawyer. CUF performs opposition research against unions and runs hyperbolic ad campaigns that have compared union leaders to dictators and tyrants. CUF’s claims about unions have been debunked by independent fact-checkers.

CUF also promotes legislation that would undermine collective bargaining. It organized a multimillion-dollar campaign to promote the anti-union Employee Rights Act in Congress, and was a major player in opposing the Employee Free Choice Act.

CUF has devoted particular attention to attacking teachers unions around the country, with one ad comparing teachers unions to segregationists. In 2008, CUF organized a publicity campaign designed the shame the 10 worst teachers in America.
